CUSTOMS LICENSED CONTAINER DEPOT
After a long and arduous application process in 2015 we received our SARS accreditation as a licensed customs depot facility in Germiston a mere 5km from our inland port, City Deep. We provide in a controlled environment and to an exacting standard, customs depot services to shipping lines, C&F agents, importers, and exporters alike. As a Licensed Customs Depot Operator, we are able to receive and unpack cargo that is still under customs control. In addition to conducting a range of various examination types for detained shipments, we are also able to store all uncleared containers, namely overstays until final release.
REMOVER OF GOODS IN BOND
Shipping & General are licence holders with customs and excise as an approved RIB carrier, Furthermore, we have a road bond guarantee lodged with customs enabling us to further enhance our service offering to our clients. In terms of prescribed SARS regulations, road transportation of bonded cargo may only be transported by:
a licensed remover of goods in bond alternatively by a licensee of a Customs and Excise warehouse moving goods with their own vehicles.

PACKING & UNPACKING
A fleet of 10 forklifts and 7 container handling reach stackers is testament that we cut no corners in our quest to be an industry leader. No cost is spared when investing in our material handling equipment, drum clamps, fixed ramps, bridge ramps, paper grabs, rhino attachments and fork extensions are some of our all-encompassing tools which ensures that our pack/unpack operations remain a slick, well-oiled machine. A devoted team with extraordinary skillsets are able to expedite both standard and complex packing/unpacking of containers, breakbulk, abnormal & out-of-gauge shipments. Absolute dexterity whilst handling your shipment, is an absolute deliverable when dealing with us.
CUSTOMS EXAMINATIONS
We have on hand a dedicated examination team who are knowledgeable in the field of customs examinations. A fleet of company vehicles are assigned to this department enabling us to rapidly attend to examinations assigned to S&G. Whether it be a tailboard, tunnel or full unpack inspection, let us represent you. We know your time is valuable, we also know that our ability to consolidate our examinations means that we always remain competitively priced. Customs examinations currently conducted by us include: Stop/Detain, Anti-smuggling/Border Police, Plant Inspections, DA 65, EWP, MIDP ,Carnet and Port health examinations. A detailed daily status report is sent to each client daily updating you on progress up until the point of final release.
CONTAINER DEPOT SERVICES
We are the proud owners of 4 full container reach stackers and a further 3 empty container handlers. We currently occupy a facility of 65 000 sqm and have recently acquired a further 85000 sqm of prime land in the heart of Rand Refinery’s gold smeltering precinct. We believe that our location and decision to invest in best-in-class equipment coupled with extensive land infrastructure, ideally positions us to handle, ground, reposition, stage or store general & hazardous containers on behalf of the forwarding, import, export, freight brokerage and the general long haul transport industry. We currently have in place a fully equipped M&R facility to undertake the repairs of containers to an exacting IICL standard for our liner clients. We are the nominated empty turn in container station in Johannesburg to amongst others, CMA-CGM, Evergreen, Ignazio Messina and ZIM.
Our strategic investment has made it possible to circumvent perpetual delays generally associated with mainstream depots and has brought to fruition our vision of quicker turnaround times for our fleet and inherently quicker deliveries to you, our client.
HAZCHEM APPROVED FACILITY

To this end, we are pleased to have the necessary permissions in place and the local accreditation of the Ekurhuleni municipality for the storage of various hazard classes.
REEFER PLUG POINTS
The clock starts ticking the moment your reefer container is on the move. Given its perishable nature, it must reach its destination on time and in peak condition. At Shipping & General we ensure that our road haulage and depot reefer storage solutions are constantly in sync. We strive to provide a transparent, unbroken last mile supply chain service. On this note, you may seek solace in knowing that our depot facilities are equipped with 20 reefer plug points creating capacity for us to stage reefer containers over weekends, public holidays or as per client requirements.
